Romano Steinmeyer Mechanics Of Marvels 29250 Oop NrThis mammoth collection of patents fo illusions and other tricks is an outstanding reference, made more so by the insightful foreword by illusion expert and designer, jim steinmeyer. Chuck romano used the 1928 james wobensmith work on magic patents as a template for his own, updating it to the present. Included are illusion patents by joseph buatier (aka buatier de kolta), carl rosini (carl rosenfeld), ernst thorn and t. Nelson downs, horace goldin, howard thurston, the great lafayette's lion's bride, the great leon (leon levy), mirror illusion patents by tobin, morritt and even mark wilson! John henry pepper's own illusion for his famous ghost is here, as is the legendary million dollar mystery. Levitations by wood, goldin, thurston and dante (harry jansen), and gale molvoinsky (the gamolo levitation) are reproduced here. There is also patented apparatus for puzzles and close up tricks. John petrie's patent for his growing rose bush effect is another highlight, along with merv taylors appearing bird cage. The techincal patent illustrations are fascinating to study, as are the technical descriptions. In addition to the reproduced patents, such as those mentioned above (and many more), numerous patents are listed by number, date, patent holder and effect, so that the interested student can easily access the additional information. This is a terrific reference for the serious student of illusions and magic history. Not surprising, given its limited print run, it sold out within a few months of publication.
